The 12th of october is the "Dia das crianças" in Brasil (the children's day). My friend Eduardo since 1998 organizes the distribution of gifts to needy children in differences slums (favelas) of São Paulo.
With the help of friends and volunteers he raises money in order to buy the presents. No politics involved, no rewards, just the desire to help and give some happiness to all these childrens.
He invited me to join the group and i accepted with enthusiasm.
On the early saturday morning of the 12th, we met in his office and from there, after have loaded the truck with all the gifts, we met all the guys outside the USP (University of São Paulo) and from there we started our route.
The schedule was to visit the favelas of São Remo, Vila Dalva, Rio Pequeno, Sape and Ponta da Praia.
In each favela we met many childrens, music and party (apart from children's day it was also a religious day celebrating "Nossa senhora da Aparecida").
Great experience, i met nice people and we had a lot of fun, playing samba on the truck, eating churrasco and also i had a glimpse of the life inside a favela, something is not easy to do.
Eduardo explained to me that every year he has to arrange this visit with the "owners" of the favelas, because otherwise it would have been impossible for us to entry inside these communities.

Here comes few picture of that day. The whole reportage soon on my web site.

A few pictures i took last weekend at Cavazzo lake, 30 miles from my city Udine.  The day was cloudy, sometimes the sun came up for a while. The sky was just right for the shots i had in mind while
walking alongside the east river of the lake.

I used a tripod and a ND filter (- 10 steps) in order to take the pictures with a few minutes exposure and give to the water this mist feeling.

I spent the last weekend with my parents on the mountains, in my grandfather's house. My father decided to have a walk and he told me he knew a nice path in the woods that connects my grandfather's village, called Pradumbli, with another nice small village a few miles from there, called Ovasta. The walk takes about 2 hours and 1\2.

Here comes few shots of that morning:

We started the route from the village of Ovasta:

A wood cottage used to store hay (grass cut and then dried on the sun for a few days):

It is usual to find images of the Madonna along the streets or paths:

Indications in order to follow the main path:

A small abandon house maybe used to storage tools:

It reminds me the house of the horror movie "Mother" by Guillermo del Toro:

Another typical cottage, first floor built in stone, second floor in wood:

This signboard reminds that the path is very suitable for a ride in mountain bike:

At the end of the walk, just before arriving at my grandfather's village, there are a bunch of houses almost ready for living. I took a funny portrait of my father with the dwarfs:

Bill Culbert -  New Zeland:
